artist statement:

My work exposes the minutiae of everyday life. My collages and photographs focus on ephemeral details and placing found objects into new contexts--whether discarded film frames that were never meant to be projected, or mediocre photographs used to create a meaningful distillation of an individual's personality.

My black-and-white photographs evoke memories of times past in an unreal, idealized world. Other photographic works make use of overlooked, disposable images, revealing their unsung beauty. In my collages, I use numerous paper and photographic sources ranging from photo booth pictures, to head shots, to art papers, to newsprint, to found objects. I try to create a near-photographic representation of my subject in five layers of paper or less. The backgrounds of these collages often reflect, in simplified symbols, what each subject values most.

This work reflects a constant struggle between purely representative art and capturing the invisible essence of my subjects.
